Character Canon: The Spectacular Spider-Man (Animated Series)
Canon Background: Here.Omegafriends Background: The basic background of Peter's life remains very similar - his parents were scientific researchers lost in a plane accident, and he was then raised by his kindly Aunt and Uncle. Besides Ben and May, parts of his background that are connected to other characters - Eddie, Gwen, Harry, Flash, and Dr. Conners in particular - are omitted for the time being, unless and
in case anyone chooses to app such characters in the future, or other characters in the AU come to fill those roles in one way or another. As such, the genetically modified spider that bit him did not necessarily come from Dr. Conners' lab, but regardless it happened at some field trip or another to some high tech genetics research lab
somewhere.Given what we've seen of Venture City so far, I'm sure there's a
few.
Likewise, this Peter tried to use his powers for personal gain, didn't stop a robber, and that robber went on to kill Uncle Ben. Same basic song and dance there.
Really, the biggest difference for Peter comes down to the world he lives in. In the Animated Series, it was stated to be early in the life of that particular Marvel Universe - as such, there were not many, if any, heroes roaming the streets. Venture City is very different, and as such so is Spidey's approach. He's a little more upfront about his actions, and does a little less sneaking in the shadows. He's likely to show a lot of admiration for the older, more acitve heroes running around.
But
more or less, he is straight up what you'd expect for Peter Parker.
As for Spidey, he's just starting out - he probably hasn't joined the Omegafriends as a whole, but is in that "ally" slot with a watch and all that, but still trying to play the loner gig. For now.
Personality: Before obtaining his powers, Peter Parker was a loser. A Class-A nerd who was bullied and pushed around, ignored by girls, but hey - he did great in math class! Since getting bitten by that spider and becoming the
Amazing Sensational Spectacular Spider-Man, however, he... ... Actually he's not much better. Sure, he's got a lot more confidence, and tries to show it - but in the end he's still that awkward geek. Awkward trying to make friends. Awkward trying to ask girls out for a date.
Generally very awkward. As that geek, however, he's highly intelligent - something which has served him well in his new life.
Once he puts on that mask, Peter's personality changes a good bit. Spider-Man is confident and chatty, constantly (CONSTANTLY) yammering on and on while trying to subdue whatever supervillain has run across him this week. When out as a hero, Peter shows he's an incredibly quick thinker, as many of his victories have come as much from his sharp mind as they have his spider powers. In the end, they're only a means to an end, much as he may or may not realize that.
The death of his Uncle Ben understandably changed his life - and more than anything, his Uncle's mantra of "with great power, comes great responsibility" stuck with him more than anything. No matter how much trouble his double life causes trouble for him, he will always remain as Spider-Man and do the right thing because he remembers that the one time he
didn't it cost him someone he loved. In spite of doing a fairly good job of maintaining his identity, that does cause him no end of trouble - he often misses appointments, classes,
dates, important meetings with friends, and breaks curfew to go swinging around saving the day. By and large, he might save that day, but it usually ends up always impacting Peter Parker for the worst.
Still, he is a teenager. He's prone to being selfish, as much as he preaches about responsibility. He might think he knows what's best, but often times doesn't. He's got a good heart, but can easily act in vengeance (though will be likely to stop himself before he goes too far.) When it comes to girls, he rarely thinks with his head. Basically, he's still your average, everyday teenager - just with extraordinary power. He does try to take up an adult's responsibility in one respect, though - namely, taking care of his Aunt. He takes photographs of himself as Spider-Man to try and sell them for money, not for his own sake, but for money to help May pay her bills.
By and large, there's not a whole lot of differences between this Peter and his canon incarnation. One distinct thing however is that while there were not a bunch of costumed heroes before him in his world, this universe is quite obviously different. He takes a lot of inspiration from heroes past and present, and can and will be more than a little starstruck running into the "big names." He also feels a bit of shame in that regard - he knows he didn't
start out in this gig doing anything heroic, and initially may have some worry about that reflecting on who he comes across as here and now. The bigger heroes know what they're doing, while he's just a kid - he knows he has a lot to learn, and
wants to learn from his peers. He's actually just a little afraid to ask.
Powers: As mentioned, Peter Parker's greatest skill actually has nothing to do with his spider powers. He's exceedingly intelligent, perhaps even more so than he realizes. He's often able to quickly strategize and think on the fly, something perhaps even more likely to save him than being able to stick to walls. He's also a bit of an inventor - he created Spider-Man's web shooters himself, along with the compound that became his artificial "webbing." He also made his own costume, and Spider Signal. Which is just a... belt mounted flashlight that shines Spidey's face on things, but hey.
But, most importantly are the powers granted to him by that genetically modified spider, giving him the powers of said spider.
Webbing - While not an actual power, it's worth noting! His artificial webbing is very strong, and while super strength can shred it in a lot of cases, it can hold up to a lot of weight, leaving him able to swing around the city with little to no effort. The web isn't permanent, however - it dissolves after an hour. As well, the web shooters function on cartridges, making it so he can reload them after he runs out. Somehow, he always seems to run out of webbing at the worst possible moments, though...
Spider Strength - Peter has the proportionate strength of a spider, able to lift upwards of several tons more his own weight. As he grows older and bigger, he will thus only get stronger once he reaches adulthood.
Wall Crawler - Peter can cling to almost any viable surface with his hands and feet. As such, the boots and gloves of his costume are thin enough to transmit this - if he's just wearing normal sneakers or gloves that are too thick, he can't and will not stick to anything.
Agility, Speed, and Reflexes - He is incredibly agile and flexible now, to the extent the human body really can be. His reflexes work with this in turn, able to react to things coming at him within a moment's notice, his body often moving almost instinctively in battle and even just moving across the city. Combining this with his increased strength, he's also very fast.
Spider-Sense - Perhaps most importantly, Peter has the power to detect incoming danger to him from all directions. Anything he perceives as an immediate threat to his person will be sensed, making an already fast and agile enemy very, very difficult to hit. [In the Animated Series, and most canons, the only thing that can bypass his Spider-Sense is Venom, due to the alien symbiote having spent time with Peter as its host. As such an incident hasn't occurred here yet, it does does not yet apply.]
Everything Else - In the Spectacular Spider-Man TV show, in particular, Spidey often takes an incredible amount of punishment. Thrown through cars. Walls. Entire buildings, crushed beneath who knows what - and never with a bruise or broken bone to show for it. Peter is not invincible, he's still human and able to be seriously hurt or killed, but... he can take an awful lot of physical damage before he's put down for the count. Beyond that, Peter has a number of more minor superhuman attributes - he's able to maintain his equilibrium no matter where he is, and perhaps related to his incredible durability must have some level of increased healing. Lastly, given how long he's able to keep up fights at times, his stamina is clearly way, WAY above that of a normal human.
